Paratext is happy to announce another recent addition to United States Masterfile: the NASA Index to Photograph Files, 1958-1991.

This resource joins the NASA Scientific and Technical Information Repository and the NASA Planetary Data System Digital Products archive in United States Masterfile, giving researchers access to a wider variety of NASA-derived resources than ever before.

Providing searchable descriptions of nearly 65 thousand images produced by NASA from the late 1950s to the early 1990s, NASA Index to Photograph Files, 1958-1991 combines two electronic indexes of NASA images made available through National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) catalogs: the “NASA Index to Color Photograph Files documenting the period 1958 - 1983” and the “NASA Index to Black and White Photograph Files, documenting the period 1958 - 1991.”

Within the NASA Index to Photograph Files, find descriptions of images relating to NASA’s early use of simulators to train astronauts, weather satellite monitoring of dust bowl-sized dust storms, the development of space-friendly foods for in-flight eating, and much more.

Users of United States Masterfile can access entries from the NASA Index to Photograph Files. Check your institution’s database subscriptions to find if you have access to United States Masterfile, or sign up for a free trial at https://public.paratext.com/customer/.
